Why this works

Trying to lock down a single target becomes a lot simpler when these two are on the same team. Chaos Knight provides the initial, reliable stun with Chaos Bolt. This gives Witch Doctor the window he needs to land a Paralyzing Cask and a full-duration Maledict without trouble. The combined lockdown is long enough for Chaos Knight and his illusions to deal heavy physical damage, all of which gets amplified by the Maledict curse. It's a straightforward setup: one hero holds them down, the other makes sure the damage sticks and escalates.

This combo is strongest in the laning stage and during mid-game ganks, where you can isolate a hero and blow them up before their team can react. The main weakness is that it's very focused on one target and relies on Witch Doctor staying alive to channel Death Ward. An enemy team with good saves, like a Force Staff or a Glimmer Cape, can often rescue the initiated target. They will also prioritize interrupting the Death Ward channel. The success of this pairing often comes down to Chaos Knight picking the right moment to go in.
