Dark Willow + Lich

Why this works

Setting up a Chain Frost with Dark Willow's Cursed Crown sounds effective, but it often proves less reliable than it seems. The combo depends on the enemy having no way to dispel the stun, and even when it lands, both heroes are contributing very similar things to a fight. They both offer magical burst and control from the back line, which creates a lot of overlap. Dark Willow and Lich essentially want to do the same job, which can leave significant gaps in the team's overall strategy, such as a lack of saves or a durable front line.

A strong laning stage from this pair can create a false sense of security. As the game progresses, a team with two fragile, spell-casting supports can be easily exploited. Opponents will build magic resistance to blunt their impact or simply dive past the cores to kill both supports at the start of a teamfight. While the double dose of crowd control can lock down a single target, the overall composition struggles against lineups that are more physically durable or have better ways to initiate and sustain through the initial burst of spells.
