Why this works

Fighting for the same resources often defines this pairing's early game, as both Magnus and Dark Willow can need key items to come online, straining the team's economy. When they do fight together, their abilities can actively work against each other. The classic nightmare is Dark Willow casting Terrorize on enemies perfectly grouped by Reverse Polarity, scattering them to safety and wasting the entire setup. Even without that misplay, her delayed crowd control from Cursed Crown or Bramble Maze doesn't provide the immediate, heavy damage that Magnus needs as follow-up to his ultimate.

This forces teamfights to be awkward and inefficient. The enemy team can play with less fear of a big Reverse Polarity, knowing the follow-up damage is weak or slow. A successful combo requires the Dark Willow player to consciously avoid using her ultimate during the most important teamfight spell, while the Magnus is left hoping other allies can cover the damage gap. This dynamic means one hero's big moment forces the other to play with a handicap, leading to messy fights that are easy to lose.
