Drow Ranger + Magnus

Why this works

Setting up a big Reverse Polarity for Drow Ranger to hit feels like the natural game plan. Magnus can lock down and group up key targets, creating a perfect window for Drow to fire away with her high physical damage from a safe distance. The bonus damage from Empower is a decent boost for her as well. The main point of friction is Skewer. If Magnus pulls the stunned enemies too close to Drow, it can disable her Marksmanship ultimate, crippling her damage output at the most critical moment. The cleave from Empower is also not very effective for a hero who primarily focuses on single targets.

This pairing lives or dies on precise coordination. A skilled Magnus will attempt to Skewer enemies away from Drow or to a spot where she can continue attacking safely, but this is a difficult maneuver in a chaotic teamfight. Drow Ranger must constantly anticipate where Magnus will move enemies and position herself accordingly, which can be awkward. More often than not, a misplaced Skewer can deliver enemy heroes directly on top of the vulnerable Drow, getting her killed instantly. This high execution barrier means the combo's success is never guaranteed, leading to very inconsistent fight outcomes.
