Why this works

Stacking up teamfight control is the name of the game here. Grimstroke’s Soulbind provides the perfect setup for Lich's Chain Frost, guaranteeing it bounces between the two tethered heroes for massive damage. This interaction alone can decide a mid-game engagement. Beyond that, the pair offers relentless slows. A target hit by Frost Blast and Stroke of Fate is practically stationary, making them easy pickings for your cores. Ink Swell also adds another layer of initiation or counter-initiation, stunning an area right as the big ultimates are about to land.

This duo hits a major power spike once both heroes have their ultimates, forcing the enemy to respect their teamfight potential. Opponents have to play spread out constantly, which makes them susceptible to ganks and gives your team map control. If they do group up, they risk getting completely wiped by the combo. The main counterplay for the other team involves buying Black King Bars earlier than they'd like or attempting to split the map to avoid direct confrontations. The Grimstroke and Lich need to coordinate their ultimates, but when they do, the fight is often over before it begins.
