Invoker + Slardar

Why this works

Picking Slardar alongside an Invoker can feel like a toss-up, because the value of the pairing depends entirely on which spells Invoker chooses to focus on. On paper, the combination is a classic physical damage setup. Slardar can initiate with a stun and apply Corrosive Haze, shredding a target’s armor. A Quas Exort Invoker can then unload with Alacrity and Forged Spirits to secure a quick kill. The stun also provides an easy setup for landing a Sun Strike or Meteor, making ganks fairly reliable if the Invoker has the right spells ready.

In practice, this specific synergy might not even come up. If the game calls for a Quas Wex Invoker, the armor reduction from Slardar becomes almost meaningless. The pair then has to rely on generic crowd control follow-up, which is useful but not uniquely powerful. Slardar will still look for initiations and Invoker will still throw his spells, but they operate more as two separate heroes doing their jobs than as a coordinated combo. The outcome often hinges on which Invoker build is needed for the match, rather than a plan set from the draft.
