Lion + Winter Wyvern

Why this works

Drafting Lion and Winter Wyvern together presents a dilemma of conflicting control. Lion excels at isolating and bursting a single enemy with Earth Spike and Hex, setting them up for a quick Finger of Death. The problem arises with Winter's Curse. If Winter Wyvern casts her ultimate on a different hero than the one Lion has locked down, your entire team is forced to switch targets. This often lets Lion's original priority target escape while the team is compelled to attack the Cursed hero, effectively wasting Lion's setup. The two heroes' primary disable spells can work at cross-purposes.

This clash of focus defines their performance together. In coordinated play, Winter's Curse can provide a perfect setup for Lion's spells on a key target. But in a fast-paced teamfight, it’s common for the two ultimates to land on separate enemies, splitting your team’s damage and attention. The outcome of a fight then depends entirely on which hero—the one Lion Hexed or the one Wyvern Cursed—was the more important target. This unreliability means their combined impact rarely adds up to more than the sum of its parts, leading to very average results.
