Magnus + Pudge

Why this works

Pairing these two initiators can be awkward because their core objectives often clash. Magnus wants to group enemies for his team with Reverse Polarity, setting up for area damage and cleave attacks. Pudge, on the other hand, wants to do the opposite by isolating a single hero with Meat Hook. This conflict means they can step on each other's toes; Pudge might hook a target *out* of the stun, ruining the follow-up. Plus, Pudge is a poor recipient of Empower since he doesn't build around attack speed or benefit much from cleave.

This tension between their kits often leads to inefficient teamfights. A successful Hook might tempt Magnus into using his ultimate on one hero, which is rarely worth it. Conversely, a perfect multi-hero Reverse Polarity is less impactful if the team's core is Pudge instead of a dedicated right-clicker who can truly abuse the setup and Empower buff. For the combo to work, one hero usually has to play passively and react to the other, which is a less reliable way to win fights compared to duos with more natural synergy.
