Magnus + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Landing a big Reverse Polarity and following up with Mystic Flare seems like the dream, but the combo can fall short. Skywrath Mage's ultimate divides its damage among all heroes caught in its area. This means hitting a multi-hero RP with it actually reduces the chance of bursting any single target. For the combo to secure a kill, the targets need to be weakened beforehand or another hero has to provide significant follow-up damage. Without that, you're often left with several injured enemies who can still fight back.

Outside of that ultimate combo, Magnus and Skywrath Mage operate on different wavelengths. Magnus is looking to empower a physical damage core and create space, playing around his melee-range initiation. Skywrath, on the other hand, is a fragile backliner focused on silencing one key target and unloading magic from a safe distance. Their preferred positions in a teamfight are at odds, and when Reverse Polarity is on cooldown, their kits offer little else to directly support each other's goals. This can lead to disconnected fights where neither hero can fully enable the other.
