Magnus + Terrorblade

Why this works

Seeing Empower on an allied Terrorblade seems like a straightforward way to accelerate his farm and increase his damage. The problem is that a huge part of Empower's value is the cleave it provides, and Terrorblade can only use that in his base melee form. During Metamorphosis, when he's at his strongest and wants to be hitting heroes, the cleave does nothing. He still benefits from the bonus damage, but a core part of the spell is completely wasted during the most important moments of a teamfight.

This mechanical awkwardness is matched by a strategic one. Magnus hits a major timing with his Blink Dagger and wants to find multi-hero Reverse Polarity plays to control the map. Terrorblade often prefers to use that same mid-game window to split-push with illusions and avoid full-on teamfights until he has more items. This can lead to situations where Magnus sets up a perfect fight, but his carry is on the other side of the map, unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The duo's timings are often just out of sync.
