Marci + Slark

Why this works

Thinking this is a straightforward ganking pair is a common trap. On paper, Marci's Dispose sets up an easy Pounce for Slark, and Sidekick gives him the damage and lifesteal he needs to secure a kill. The reality is that both heroes want to do the same thing: dive a single target. This makes them predictable and vulnerable to counter-initiation. Marci's throw can also be awkward, sometimes moving a target out of Slark's reach or breaking his Pounce leash. They both commit hard to the same play, and if the enemy team is ready, the dive can fall apart fast.

This duo can find success picking off lone heroes in the early and mid-game. The problems arise when teams start to group. Both Marci and Slark need to get in close, making them susceptible to the same area-of-effect spells. Their ideal fight tempos can also clash. Marci wants to burst a target down during Unleash, while Slark often prefers a longer fight to build up Essence Shift stacks. A good enemy team will exploit this by saving their control spells for the moment these two dive together, often leaving Marci stranded after Slark escapes with Shadow Dance.
