Mars + Nyx Assassin

Why this works

Struggling to find a unified game plan often defines this pairing. Mars excels at creating a contained, multi-hero brawl with Arena of Blood, expecting his team to follow up with area damage. Nyx Assassin, however, is a specialist at isolating and eliminating a single hero with Vendetta and his burst combo. When Mars traps several enemies, Nyx can delete one of them, but then he's a fragile hero stuck inside a chaotic fight he isn't equipped to handle. Their core objectives are simply at odds with each other.

This conflict in design means one hero is usually playing sub-optimally. Either Nyx is forced to group for Arena fights where his single-target kit feels underwhelming, or he roams for solo pick-offs, leaving Mars without the necessary damage to capitalize on his initiations. The enemy team can adapt easily by either staying together to nullify Nyx's ganks or splitting up to render Arena of Blood less impactful. This puts the initiative in the enemy's hands, as the Mars and Nyx duo rarely presents a cohesive threat.
