Mars + Pangolier

Why this works

Struggling for map control often happens when these two are on the same team. Both Mars and Pangolier typically want to be active, space-creating cores who need farm and levels to hit their timings. When they're drafted together, they compete for the same waves and jungle camps, which means both heroes come online much later than they should. This creates a huge power vacuum during the mid-game, as the team lacks a strong initiator to secure objectives or win fights, forcing everyone to play from behind.

The core mechanical problem surfaces in teamfights. Mars wants to trap key targets inside his Arena of Blood for a controlled beatdown. Pangolier, however, causes chaos with Rolling Thunder, which bounces enemies around uncontrollably. This frequently results in Pangolier knocking targets straight out of the Arena, completely wasting Mars's ultimate. Instead of a clean setup for a kill, their signature abilities work against each other, turning what should be an easy fight into a scramble where enemies simply get away.
