Medusa + Phoenix

Why this works

Pairing these two heroes is a bet on winning a specific kind of teamfight. The core idea is that their ultimates can protect each other. If enemies try to burst down Phoenix's Supernova, Medusa can use Stone Gaze to stop them in their tracks, securing the stun. Inversely, Supernova can reset a fight that's going poorly for Medusa, forcing enemies to either switch targets to the egg or get disabled. Phoenix’s Fire Spirits also make it much harder for right-click heroes to break the egg or bring down Medusa's Mana Shield, adding another layer to their potential durability in a brawl.

In practice, this combo can be awkward to execute. Both Medusa and Phoenix want to be the center of the enemy team's attention, and coordinating their big spells requires good timing. If the enemy has a lot of mobility, they can often disengage from Stone Gaze and simply reposition to kill the Supernova from a safe angle. The success of this lane pairing often comes down to whether they can force a static, prolonged fight. If they can, their combined area denial is powerful. If the enemy can dictate the tempo and positioning, both ultimates can be easily played around.
