Shadow Fiend + Tusk

Why this works

Pairing Tusk with Shadow Fiend seems like a straightforward way to land a perfect Requiem of Souls. Tusk's Snowball can deliver Shadow Fiend directly on top of a target, and Walrus Punch can hold them in place. The issue is commitment. This play puts a fragile, farm-dependent hero in an extremely dangerous forward position. If the target has a way to survive the initial burst—a save from a support, a BKB, or even just a well-timed stun—both heroes are often left stranded and easily killed. It's a high-risk maneuver that can completely backfire and ruin SF's early game.

The success of the lane often comes down to the first few attempts. If they can coordinate a kill or two, Shadow Fiend can use the gold and Necromastery souls to snowball into the mid-game. However, experienced enemies will anticipate this, placing defensive wards and staying far back. When the gank potential is nullified, Tusk is forced to roam elsewhere to find impact, leaving Shadow Fiend to farm alone. The game then hinges less on their combination and more on whether they can win their individual parts of the map.
