Why this works

Sharing farm across the map can become a point of friction. Both Phantom Assassin and Phantom Lancer want to occupy the safest lanes and jungle camps for a long time to hit their item timings. Since both heroes deal primarily physical damage, the enemy team can often itemize efficiently with armor or items like Crimson Guard, mitigating the threat from both cores at once. The heroes also lack a natural setup for one another; neither provides the hard lockdown the other needs to secure kills in the mid-game.

This puts immense pressure on the rest of the team to survive the mid-game. The lineup is greedy and often lacks the magic damage or control needed to contest early objectives. If the game does go late enough for both Phantom Assassin and Phantom Lancer to come online, the combined physical damage can be significant. However, opponents will have had the entire game to prepare for this predictable strategy, often building items that counter both heroes, which tends to level the playing field.
