Razor + Tidehunter

Why this works

Pairing a big teamfight ultimate with a single-target drain seems like a solid plan. The idea is that Tidehunter uses Ravage to hold an enemy carry in place for Razor to get a full-duration Static Link. The problem is that their core plans conflict. Tidehunter wants to initiate, soak damage, and be the center of attention, while Razor also needs to be in the thick of it to apply his spells. Once Ravage is over, the enemy team is free to disengage from Razor or burst him down. Both heroes want to occupy a similar space as durable frontliners, but they don't necessarily amplify each other's strengths.

During the game, this means their success often feels disconnected. Tidehunter can land a perfect five-man Ravage, but if the primary target is on the edge of the fight, Razor might not be able to connect his Link in time. Conversely, Razor can find a great link, but without follow-up control from his team, the target can simply walk away. They function as two independent strong heroes rather than a cohesive unit. The combo isn't actively bad, but it rarely produces the kind of lockdown and damage that other pairings can, making fights less predictable than you'd like.
