Rubick + Shadow Demon

Why this works

Setting up kills with this pair often feels redundant. Shadow Demon’s Disruption and Rubick’s Telekinesis both serve as single-target setup spells; using them on the same hero is inefficient, but splitting them can lack focus. Both heroes are also squishy and need a fair amount of resources to be effective. When they're on the same team as supports, they compete for a limited pool of farm and experience, which can leave one or both of them too poor and under-leveled to contribute when fights start breaking out.

This weakness allows opponents to be aggressive from the very start of the game. The laning phase for Rubick and Shadow Demon is passive, as they lack trading potential and can be easily pressured. To have an impact, they are often forced to play apart, using their disables to assist different cores. The problem comes when it's time to group up. The pair offers very little durability or wave clear, meaning the entire outcome of a teamfight can depend on Rubick stealing the perfect spell at the perfect time, which is rarely a reliable strategy to build around.
