Rubick + Ursa

Why this works

Pairing Rubick and Ursa together puts a lot of pressure on the enemy team's draft. Rubick’s game plan revolves around Spell Steal, but Ursa’s entire kit is based on physical attacks and self-buffs, offering nothing for him to copy. This means for Rubick to have a high-impact game, he is completely reliant on stealing a powerful spell from the opponents. While a Telekinesis lift can certainly set up a kill, Ursa needs consistent lockdown to stick to targets. The two heroes can feel like they are playing their own separate games rather than working together.

In the lane, a well-timed lift can lead to a kill for Ursa, letting him build up Fury Swipes on a helpless target. As the game progresses, however, their goals can diverge. Ursa wants to find pickoffs and secure Roshan, which requires his team to play around his timings. Rubick, meanwhile, is often forced to position defensively, waiting for the perfect enemy spell to turn a fight. If that spell never comes, Ursa might feel like he lacks the support needed to truly take over the map.
