Why this works

Picking these two heroes together is a bet on executing a specific mid-game objective play. The main idea is to combine Winter's Curse with Corrosive Haze on a single target. Slardar’s armor reduction makes the physical attacks from the cursed hero’s own allies significantly more effective, helping to secure a kill that Winter Wyvern might not otherwise get. Slardar can also use his stun on the allies clumped around the cursed target, adding another layer of control to the teamfight. A well-timed Cold Embrace can also save a Slardar who dives in too aggressively, making his initiations a bit more forgiving.

This setup relies on good positioning from both players and isn't always easy to pull off. The value comes from turning a teamfight around a key target, but the window to act is small. Slardar needs to get his Haze onto the cursed target, and Winter Wyvern needs to land her ultimate on the right hero near their allies. Opponents will learn to play spread out, anticipating the combination, or try to focus Slardar down before Wyvern can react. This back-and-forth often leads to small advantages rather than decisive team wipes, keeping the overall impact of the pairing noticeable but not overwhelming.
