Abaddon vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Dumping your entire mana pool on a target only for them to walk away healthy is a Skywrath Mage's nightmare. Abaddon is built to make that happen. Skywrath relies on locking a hero down with Ancient Seal and bursting them with Mystic Flare. Aphotic Shield provides a timely dispel for the silence and soaks up a lot of that initial damage. If the target is still in trouble, Borrowed Time can activate and heal them through the rest of the combo. This makes it very difficult for Skywrath to secure kills on anyone Abaddon is protecting.

This dynamic shapes the entire game. Skywrath Mage has to play with more caution, trying to bait out Abaddon's spells or find a target completely out of his reach. A gank that would normally be a sure kill can be completely turned around by a single shield. Abaddon can also be a problem offensively, as he's happy to run at a fragile hero like Skywrath. Once slowed by Curse of Avernus, Skywrath has few ways to escape. The advantage isn't absolute, as a well-positioned Skywrath can still impact a fight, but Abaddon consistently disrupts his primary game plan.
