Abaddon vs Spirit Breaker

How this matchup plays

Watching a Charge of Darkness icon appear over your carry is often a welcome sight for Abaddon. A well-timed Aphotic Shield on the charged target will instantly dispel the stun upon impact, completely negating Spirit Breaker's initiation. This frequently leaves Spirit Breaker stranded deep in enemy territory with his main stun wasted and his target now shielded. The entire success of the gank hinges on whether Abaddon is in position with enough mana to cast his shield. If he's caught out or too slow, the lockdown works as intended.

The matchup evolves into a game of prediction. Spirit Breaker learns to bait the shield by charging a less valuable hero first, or he’ll specifically target allies who are isolated from Abaddon's protection. Abaddon, in turn, must shadow his vulnerable cores closely. Trying to go on Abaddon himself is usually a mistake for Spirit Breaker, as Borrowed Time will cleanse the stuns and turn the gank around. Because the outcome of every gank depends on a split-second decision from both players, neither hero tends to consistently dominate the other.
