Abaddon vs Tidehunter

How this matchup plays

Landing a perfect Ravage feels a lot less satisfying when Abaddon is on the other team. Tidehunter’s main job is to set up fights with his ultimate, but Aphotic Shield is a direct answer, instantly dispelling the stun from whichever ally Abaddon chooses to save. This can completely undo Tidehunter’s initiation on a key core. Trying to burst Abaddon himself is also a bad plan, since Borrowed Time will activate and turn the incoming damage into healing. This core interaction means Tidehunter can’t rely on his usual playbook to win a teamfight single-handedly.

The game then becomes a standoff of cooldowns and positioning. The Tidehunter player has to try and catch multiple heroes spread out so Abaddon can only save one, or bait the shield before committing Ravage. Abaddon has to stay in a position where he can react in time, and his team can’t afford to play split up if they know Ravage is available. Since either hero can misplay their big spell or be outmaneuvered, fights often come down to which team has the better positioning and target priority, rather than one hero having a clear advantage over the other.
