Abaddon vs Vengeful Spirit

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a team protected by Abaddon is tough, but Vengeful Spirit has the perfect tool to isolate him. Once Abaddon’s Borrowed Time activates from taking damage, Vengeful Spirit can use Nether Swap to move him to a useless position, far from the allies he’s trying to heal. His ultimate's healing effect is effectively wasted because he's now full health but completely removed from the action. This repositioning is much more reliable than trying to kill him through his ult. Vengeful Spirit’s armor reduction also helps soften up his team, making it easier to secure a kill before he can react with Aphotic Shield.

Later teamfights often hinge on this interaction. Abaddon wants to confidently walk in front, knowing his ultimate will turn the fight. Vengeful Spirit forces him to constantly worry about his positioning. A good swap at the right moment leaves his team vulnerable and without their key defensive spell. For Abaddon's team to succeed, they need to either eliminate Vengeful Spirit before the main engagement or play spread out enough that swapping him doesn't leave the rest of the team stranded. The pressure is usually on Abaddon to anticipate the swap, giving Vengeful Spirit a slight initiative.
