Underlord vs Ancient Apparition

How this matchup plays

Thinking about how to deal with a tanky frontline often leads to a hero like Ancient Apparition. His Ice Blast is one of the few spells that completely disables the powerful healing auras and items Underlord often builds for his team, making him much more manageable to kill. The problem is that Underlord himself is one of the biggest threats to Ancient Apparition. An immobile support getting caught by Pit of Malice is a guaranteed kill, and Underlord’s own kit doesn’t rely on the healing that Ice Blast negates.

This whole matchup boils down to teamfight execution. Underlord's team wants to find a way onto the back lines to eliminate Ancient Apparition before he can contribute his ultimate. A good Fiend’s Gate can make this happen instantly. In response, AA's team must play defensively, peeling for him and providing vision so he has the time and space to land a fight-winning Ice Blast on Underlord and his allies. Whichever team enables their hero's game plan better will usually come out ahead.
