Underlord vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Seeing a farmed Underlord and assuming he's too tanky to kill is a common mistake in this matchup. Shadow Shaman’s value comes from his long, single-target disables, which are the perfect tool for dealing with a hero who relies on a large health pool and damage reduction to survive. A full channel of Shackles, especially when paired with Hex, provides more than enough time for a core to burn through Underlord’s health bar. While Underlord wants to sit in the middle of the fight with Atrophy Aura active, this often makes him the easiest target for Shadow Shaman to lock down.

This dynamic gives Shadow Shaman's team a consistent way to initiate and pick off the enemy frontliner. An Underlord who tries to split-push or create pressure alone is constantly vulnerable to being caught. During teamfights, the threat of instant lockdown forces Underlord to play more cautiously, potentially limiting his effectiveness. His main recourse is to stay close to his team, hoping they can break the Shackles channel or that the Shaman is forced to use his spells on a higher-priority backliner. Underlord's Fiend's Gate escape plan is also easily foiled by a quick Hex.
