Ancient Apparition vs Keeper of the Light

How this matchup plays

Playing against an Ancient Apparition can be frustrating for Keeper of the Light. A core part of KotL's mid-game plan often involves buying an Aghanim's Shard to provide team-wide healing with Illuminate. Ancient Apparition's Ice Blast completely nullifies this, shutting down the sustain that Keeper of the Light wants to provide from the back lines. This forces the KotL to rely more on his other tools, like providing mana with Chakra Magic and pushing out dangerous lanes. The threat of Cold Feet can also punish the stationary channeling of Illuminate, making KotL's positioning even more demanding.

In teamfights, this matchup hinges on whether Ancient Apparition can land a good ultimate. A well-placed Ice Blast means Keeper of the Light's team can't rely on being topped up and has to win the fight quickly or disengage. It removes their safety net in drawn-out fights. KotL's side must focus on getting clean pickoffs before a fight fully breaks out, using his mana support to enable cores to do so. If AA misses his ultimate, however, then Keeper of the Light is free to sustain his team as normal, making the outcome of any fight much less certain.
