Ancient Apparition vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Playing from behind as a support is tough, especially when a Nyx Assassin is on the prowl. He can easily find Ancient Apparition with Vendetta and has the burst to kill him quickly, with Mana Burn being especially painful. This forces AA to play cautiously. However, Ancient Apparition is not helpless. Ice Vortex can grant vision and slow an incoming Nyx, while a preemptive Cold Feet can stop a gank in its tracks. More importantly, AA's Ice Blast is a global threat that completely ignores Spiked Carapace, allowing him to contribute to teamfights from a safe distance.

The matchup often evolves into a game of vision control. A successful Nyx will de-ward and constantly threaten to pick off a poorly positioned Ancient Apparition, forcing him to spend gold on defensive items and group with his team. In response, a well-played AA stays far back in fights, using his team as a shield while providing global pressure. The outcome hinges on which player can better execute their plan: if Nyx can’t find his target, his impact is limited, but if AA gets caught out, he’s an easy kill.
