How this matchup plays

Playing against Sand King often comes down to punishing his commitment after a Burrowstrike. He relies on being durable enough to survive after initiating, but Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast can make that difficult. The healing prevention from Ice Blast means any sustain Sand King has, whether from items or abilities, is less effective during a fight. This can turn a normally survivable initiation into a riskier one, as he can be focused down more easily once the anti-heal debuff is applied.

This dynamic forces a specific kind of adaptation from both heroes. The Ancient Apparition player will hold Ice Blast, waiting for Sand King to jump in before trying to clip him and his team. A successful Sand King has to play around this. He can try to find and kill the fragile AA before a major fight breaks out, or he can wait until Ice Blast is used on another target before committing himself. Because SK has clear ways to play around the ultimate, and can threaten AA directly, the advantage remains minor.
