Ancient Apparition vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Forcing Wraith King to play defensively is already hard, but Ancient Apparition’s kit is particularly bad at it. The main job of Ice Blast against a durable carry is to stop them from sustaining through a fight, but it doesn't work on Reincarnation. Wraith King's ultimate isn't considered healing, so the heal block and shatter mechanics don't apply. He will always get his second life. This makes Ancient Apparition's ultimate lose its unique purpose against the most important target, reducing it to a simple damage spell when it's needed most to secure a kill.

A Wraith King who understands this can be incredibly bold. He can walk up high ground and force objectives, knowing the enemy's primary anti-sustain tool is effectively useless against him. This dynamic forces Ancient Apparition's team to commit huge resources to kill Wraith King twice, while AA has to choose between using his ultimate on a less important hero or accepting its reduced impact. This often gives Wraith King control over the map and the pace of the late game, allowing him to farm safely and hit his timings.
