Ancient Apparition vs Slardar

How this matchup plays

Closing the distance on Ancient Apparition is straightforward for Slardar. Guardian Sprint lets him run through slows like Ice Vortex and get on top of a hero with no escape mechanism. Once he's on target, a quick Slithereen Crush and a few right-clicks are often enough to secure the kill, especially if Corrosive Haze is applied. Ancient Apparition’s main defensive tool, Cold Feet, is often ineffective because Slardar can simply run out of its trigger range before the stun lands. This creates a direct threat that AA has to respect all game.

This dynamic forces Ancient Apparition to play from extreme range, relying entirely on his team for vision and peel. A good Slardar will make it his mission to find and eliminate AA before a major teamfight begins, taking Ice Blast out of the equation. However, if AA can survive the initial jump or if Slardar commits to a different target, AA's spells are still very impactful. A well-placed Ice Blast can completely turn a fight by preventing Slardar and his team from healing after they dive, which is why Slardar's advantage feels present but not overwhelming.
