A well-placed Ice Blast from Ancient Apparition directly counters the healing from Warlock's Shadow Word, removing a key tool Warlock uses to sustain his lane partner and save teammates in skirmishes. Getting caught by Cold Feet also becomes much more dangerous when healing is off the table. However, this interaction doesn't stop Warlock's main game plan. His teamfight presence with Chaotic Offering and Fatal Bonds is still enormous, and Ancient Apparition has no specific way to handle a giant Golem rampaging through his team. It becomes a battle of whose ultimate has the bigger impact on the fight.

In practice, Ancient Apparition often tries to dictate the early and mid-game, using Ice Blast to secure kills on overextended heroes. Warlock, by contrast, prefers to group up with his team and force five-on-five fights where he can get a multi-hero Chaotic Offering. The fight often hinges on who gets the jump.
