Anti-Mage vs Bristleback

How this matchup plays

Trying to be a frontline menace is difficult for Bristleback when an Anti-Mage is hitting him. Every attack with Mana Break drains the resource he needs for Quill Spray, effectively turning him off as a threat once his mana is gone. This also sets up a powerful Mana Void on a hero who otherwise has a large health pool to get through. That said, Bristleback's passive makes him naturally resistant to the physical damage Anti-Mage relies on, forcing a specific approach. Anti-Mage can’t just stand behind him and expect to win a trade; he has to actively work for it.

The dynamic forces both heroes to play carefully. In lane, Bristleback has to be conservative with his spells, while Anti-Mage lacks the damage to kill him solo. In later teamfights, it's about positioning. Anti-Mage uses Blink to get in front of Bristleback to land his attacks and burn mana, while Bristleback tries to keep his back to him and charge at more fragile targets. It often comes down to which hero has the better item timings and team support to execute their plan first, making the outcome feel very dependent on the specific game.
