Anti-Mage vs Dawnbreaker

How this matchup plays

Picking a hero who can both survive and respond globally is the standard way to deal with an Anti-Mage, which is why Dawnbreaker sees so much success. Anti-Mage wants to jump on a target, drain their mana, and finish them off. Dawnbreaker is far too durable for that plan to work. She can weather his initial assault, and her own abilities like Starbreaker and Celestial Hammer are great for locking down a slippery target. While he can try to Blink away, she makes it very difficult for him to get the clean in-and-out kill he needs to snowball.

This advantage extends across the entire map. Anti-Mage’s main strategy is to split push and apply pressure away from his team, forcing favorable reactions. Solar Guardian completely negates this game plan. Dawnbreaker can be farming on the other side of the map and still arrive instantly to turn Anti-Mage's attempted gank into a disastrous fight for him. He's forced to either abandon his split-pushing style or risk feeding kills every time he tries to create pressure. This pins him down and slows his farm, delaying his key items significantly.
