Anti-Mage vs Faceless Void

How this matchup plays

Thinking this is a one-sided fight is a common mistake. Anti-Mage feels like he has the perfect kit, draining mana with every hit and threatening a huge Mana Void if Faceless Void ever uses his spells. On the other hand, Void feels like he has the ultimate answer in Chronosphere, a spell that completely ignores Anti-Mage's mobility and magic resistance to lock him down for a kill. Time Dilation also punishes Anti-Mage for using Blink and Counterspell. Both heroes have a tool that seems to perfectly counter the other, so victory often comes down to who uses their spells first.

The result is a tense cat-and-mouse game across the map. For much of the game, both heroes try to avoid each other and secure their own farm. Anti-Mage wants to split push and create pressure, forcing reactions and hoping to catch Faceless Void without his team. Void's team is on a timer, needing to group and find a clean initiation with Chronosphere before Anti-Mage gets too far ahead. The entire match can hinge on a single late-game ultimate: either Void catches Anti-Mage, or Anti-Mage baits the Chronosphere and cleans up the fight.
