Anti-Mage vs Kez

How this matchup plays

Dueling Anti-Mage as a fellow agility carry presents a fundamental resource problem. Kez relies on having enough mana to swap stances and use his abilities effectively in a one-on-one fight. Anti-Mage's Mana Break directly attacks this game plan, draining the fuel Kez needs to function. A prolonged fight will almost certainly favor Anti-Mage as Kez finds himself unable to parry or switch stances. However, much of Kez's damage is physical, meaning he bypasses Anti-Mage's innate magic resistance from Counterspell, giving him a real chance to win a quick fight.

The outcome of this matchup usually hinges on who initiates and with what items. For most of the game, both heroes are content to farm their own areas of the map. Once they are both farmed, the fight is a toss-up. If Anti-Mage can Blink in, land an Abyssal Blade stun, and start draining mana, Kez is in serious trouble. Conversely, if Kez finds a way to jump Anti-Mage first, he can often deal enough physical damage to secure the kill before the mana drain becomes a deciding factor, making this a classic test of positioning and execution.
