Anti-Mage vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Getting jumped by a Vendetta-empowered Nyx Assassin is a nightmare for Anti-Mage. Nyx's Mana Burn is exceptionally effective against heroes who need a large mana pool, making it a direct threat to AM's survivability and escape. It deals damage while also stripping away the fuel for Blink. The worst-case scenario is trying to finish a low-mana target with Mana Void only for Nyx to activate Spiked Carapace; the massive damage reflects back, stunning and often killing Anti-Mage on the spot.

This dynamic makes the entire game difficult for Anti-Mage. During the laning stage and mid-game, Nyx can easily roam and set up kills, delaying the timing on AM's core items. In late-game teamfights, Anti-Mage can't play his usual aggressive, blinking style. He’s forced to hesitate, always worrying that a stray Impale or a well-timed carapace will leave him helpless. He has to wait for Nyx to be dealt with first, which gives the enemy team a huge window to control the fight.
