Anti-Mage vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Picking an Anti-Mage when Phoenix is already on the board is a real gamble. The core problem is that Phoenix's entire kit shuts down what Anti-Mage wants to do. Trying to burst Phoenix is pointless; he'll use Icarus Dive to escape or turn with Supernova. Fire Spirits cripple AM's attack speed, making it impossible for him to kill the egg on his own, especially during the crucial mid-game. Even if Anti-Mage has his own magic immunity from an item or Counterspell, the stun from Supernova still goes through it, leaving him locked down and helpless.

This dynamic defines the whole game. In lane, Phoenix can apply constant pressure and slow Anti-Mage's farm. Later, AM’s split-pushing is less effective because Phoenix can clear waves from a safe distance. In teamfights, Anti-Mage is forced to play passively. If he Blinks in on anyone, Phoenix can punish him with a well-placed egg, turning his aggression into a death sentence for him and his team. The only way for AM to have impact is to wait until Supernova is used, but a good Phoenix player will often save it specifically for him.
