Anti-Mage vs Primal Beast

How this matchup plays

Catching an Anti-Mage is tricky, and while Primal Beast has the tools, they aren't guaranteed to work. Pulverize is excellent lockdown that goes through magic immunity, making it a reliable way to hold Anti-Mage in place for follow-up damage. However, getting in range to use it is the hard part. Primal Beast’s initiation with Onslaught is predictable, and a quick Anti-Mage can easily Blink away if he isn’t stunned first. Because all of Primal Beast's key spells have long cooldowns, a missed attempt leaves Anti-Mage free to farm or pressure the map for a significant amount of time.

Early in the game, Primal Beast is a major threat and can repeatedly gank Anti-Mage to shut down his farm. Anti-Mage's entire game plan is to avoid fighting and split the map, forcing Primal Beast to choose between defending and grouping with his own team. Later on, the dynamic shifts. Anti-Mage becomes a split-pushing menace who can drain Primal Beast's mana pool quickly in a fight. The outcome often depends on a single moment: if Primal Beast lands his ultimate, Anti-Mage dies. If he doesn't, Anti-Mage can clean up the fight.
