Anti-Mage vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Getting hooked out of position is a serious problem for a hero as fragile as Anti-Mage. If Pudge lands a Meat Hook, his Dismember provides more than enough lockdown for his team to follow up and secure the kill. Pudge's naturally high health pool, bolstered by Flesh Heap, also means he doesn't immediately fold to a Mana Void. However, this interaction goes both ways. Anti-Mage's low-cooldown Blink is the perfect tool for dodging hooks, and a well-timed Counterspell can ruin Pudge's day. Mana Break is also a huge nuisance for Pudge, who relies on a small mana pool for his entire combo.

The matchup is a race. Pudge's goal is to apply constant pressure during the mid-game, hunting for pickoffs on Anti-Mage to slow down his farm and create space for his own team to push objectives. A successful gank can be crippling. Anti-Mage's job is to survive this pressure, using his mobility to farm the map efficiently and avoid dying. Once he has a few core items, the dynamic flips. A farmed Anti-Mage is no longer scared of a solo Pudge and can often turn an attempted gank into a kill, draining all of Pudge's mana and leaving him stranded.
