Axe vs Phantom Assassin

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down an Axe is often a suicide mission for Phantom Assassin. Berserker's Call forces her to keep attacking, which means she triggers a high number of Counter Helix spins that completely ignore her evasion from Blur. The real problem, however, is Blade Mail. Phantom Assassin's entire goal is to deal huge bursts of physical damage with her critical strikes, and Axe can simply reflect that massive damage right back at her. A single big crit against an active Blade Mail can be enough to kill PA outright, turning her own strength against her.

This dynamic forces Phantom Assassin to play a completely different game. She can’t use Phantom Strike aggressively to hunt for kills if Axe is anywhere nearby, because he can instantly punish her with a Blink Dagger and Berserker's Call. Her main options are to wait until Axe has committed his spells elsewhere or to build a Black King Bar to prevent the lockdown. This severely limits her ability to snowball and assassinate key targets, forcing her to play reactively instead of setting the tempo of the fight.
