How this matchup plays

Thinking Timbersaw’s high armor and regeneration can stand up to Axe is a common mistake. The problem for Timbersaw is that Axe’s most important damage sources completely bypass his defenses. Counter Helix spins deal pure damage, ignoring the armor from Reactive Armor entirely. Battle Hunger is a constant magical drain that Timbersaw struggles to remove in lane without taking bad trades. Most importantly, Culling Blade provides a clean execution, instantly killing a low-health Timbersaw and preventing him from escaping or regenerating back into the fight. Axe has the perfect tools to negate everything that makes Timbersaw feel durable.

This advantage plays out from the very start of the game. Axe can bully Timbersaw out of the lane with a combination of his spin and Battle Hunger. Later on, a Blink Dagger into Berserker’s Call is a death sentence, as it prevents Timbersaw from using Timber Chain to escape. Axe actively hunts for this exact scenario, knowing his team can burst Timbersaw down to the Culling Blade threshold. Timbersaw is forced into a reactive game, having to constantly position himself away from Axe or risk getting initiated on and deleted before he can contribute to a teamfight.
