How this matchup plays

Picking Beastmaster into an enemy Pugna often feels like a mistake from the very start. Beastmaster’s core strategy involves repeatedly using spells to summon units and pressure the lane, which plays directly into Pugna's hands. Every cast of Wild Axes near a Nether Ward punishes Beastmaster with a blast of damage, turning his main harassment tool against him. On top of that, Pugna's Decrepify can neutralize all the physical damage from Beastmaster and his summons, whether it's saving a key ally from a gank or rendering Beastmaster himself helpless while his Primal Roar target walks away.

This difficult dynamic forces Beastmaster to play on the back foot all game. In lane, he can’t trade effectively without taking significant damage from the ward. During mid-game pushes, his whole team is zoned out from objectives by that same ward. Beastmaster’s only option is to constantly hunt for the ward, which often requires overextending or calling for help. Pugna simply needs to focus on smart ward placement and using Decrepify to disrupt Beastmaster's initiations, consistently shutting down the hero's main avenues for creating an advantage.
