Beastmaster vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Facing a Shadow Shaman makes it incredibly difficult to execute Beastmaster's game plan. The entire strategy of using Primal Roar to isolate a target and then swarm them with summons is completely undone by a well-positioned Shaman. A single Hex or Shackles on Beastmaster himself after he initiates is often a death sentence, leaving his army without direction and his team without their initiator. Furthermore, any attempt to push a tower is met with Mass Serpent Wards, which create a kill zone that melts through the Boar and any other units Beastmaster has gathered, completely stalling his objective pressure.

This dynamic shapes the entire mid-game. Beastmaster wants to accelerate the tempo by taking objectives after a successful gank, but Shadow Shaman is purpose-built to stop this. He can turn the initial gank around with his disables and then deny the tower push with his ultimate. For Beastmaster to succeed, he must somehow initiate directly on the Shaman, who will be playing far in the back. Meanwhile, Shadow Shaman simply needs to stay alive and wait for Beastmaster to make the first move, confident he has the tools to dismantle the play.
