Facing a last-pick Broodmother often makes teams look for reliable area-of-effect damage, and Lich provides a classic answer. The entire matchup can hinge on his Chain Frost. Broodmother’s plan to overwhelm objectives with an army of Spiderlings backfires, as these units become perfect bounce targets for Lich's ultimate, guaranteeing a high-impact spell. Even his basic Frost Blast helps clear out spider clumps and slow Broodmother's advance, chipping away at the pressure she wants to apply. His kit is fundamentally well-suited to dealing with a hero who relies on a swarm of weak units to fight.

This advantage is far from a lock, though. An experienced Broodmother player knows Lich is a primary threat and will actively play around him.
