Broodmother vs Lion

How this matchup plays

Controlling a lane against Broodmother can feel impossible, but Lion has the right tools for the job. Earth Spike gives him an area stun to catch her and the spiderlings, while Hex is a reliable, instant disable that ignores her webs. He can even drain her mana to stop the spider production. The problem is that Lion has to use these spells perfectly. If he gets caught alone by Broodmother after his spells are on cooldown, her spider army will make short work of him. He has the ideal kit to kill her, but she has the ideal army to punish his mistakes.

This makes the matchup a tense game of cat and mouse. Lion wants to establish vision with sentries and wait for Broodmother to overextend, then lock her down for his team to kill. Using Finger of Death is often necessary to burst her before she can escape. Broodmother, in turn, plays around his cooldowns. She’ll push aggressively when she knows his spells are down or try to bait a Hex onto a spiderling. The game often comes down to which player can better anticipate the other's movements and force a fatal error.
