Broodmother vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Picking Broodmother into a potential Spectre is a big gamble, because Spectre fundamentally turns Brood's greatest strength into a weakness. Broodmother wants to overwhelm targets with a massive army of Spiderlings. Against Spectre, this backfires completely. Every bit of damage the spiders deal is partially reflected by Dispersion, hitting every other spiderling in the area. This melts the whole swarm almost instantly, leaving Broodmother exposed and without her primary source of damage and pressure. Spectral Dagger also lets Spectre ignore the body-blocking that would normally trap other heroes.

The entire game becomes a race. Broodmother must dominate her lane, take objectives, and end the game before Spectre gets her core items and levels. If Broodmother fails to build an insurmountable lead, the matchup flips. A farmed Spectre can use Haunt to jump on a split-pushing Broodmother anywhere on the map. Once she's there, the spider army dies to reflected damage, and Broodmother has little chance of fighting back or escaping. Spectre's global presence and innate tankiness directly punish the map control that Broodmother tries to establish.
