Centaur Warrunner vs Monkey King

How this matchup plays

Picking Monkey King into an opponent's lane can be a risky call if Centaur Warrunner is on the board. Monkey King's entire damage plan revolves around hitting a target repeatedly to build up Jingu Mastery stacks. Centaur's passive Retaliate ability directly challenges this by dealing damage back with every attack. This return damage can discourage Monkey King from trading hits in the lane. The issue extends to Wukong's Command, as the illusions created by the ultimate will also take damage from Retaliate, thinning their numbers before they can do much.

As the game progresses, this dynamic forces Monkey King to play carefully. He must use his mobility from Tree Dance to find and isolate weaker targets, avoiding direct confrontations with Centaur Warrunner until he has a significant item advantage or help from his team. Centaur, in turn, wants to position himself as a barrier, forcing Monkey King to either fight him on unfavorable terms or waste time looking for a better angle. A well-timed Hoof Stomp can also interrupt a Primal Spring or lock Monkey King down, but he often has the tools to escape and re-engage on his own terms.
