Disruptor vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Drafting one of these heroes into the other creates a real dilemma, because the matchup hinges on a single ability. Phantom Lancer’s Doppelganger is a direct answer to Disruptor's single-target control. It purges Thunder Strike and makes landing a good Glimpse almost impossible, since you’ll usually grab an illusion by mistake. This interaction alone undermines a huge part of what Disruptor wants to do: isolate and punish a specific enemy. Ironically, Disruptor is a fantastic ally for PL, providing the very lockdown he struggles to apply against him.

The lane can be tough for Phantom Lancer at first, as Disruptor can harass him heavily before he gets his key levels and items. But the matchup completely flips later. Disruptor can't reliably catch a split-pushing PL, and in teamfights, he's forced to throw down Static Storm and Kinetic Field and hope for the best. A smart PL can often play around the ultimate's duration or use Doppelganger to reposition. The Disruptor is forced to rely on teammates for AoE damage, while the Phantom Lancer looks for any opening to swarm the back lines.
