Phantom Lancer (PL) Counter Picks — 7.41f
Who counters Phantom Lancer (PL) in Dota 2 7.41f? Counter picks and matchups for Phantom Lancer, ranked by win rate from ranked matches.
Phantom Lancer is an illusion carry who drowns the enemy in Doppelgangers and Juxtapose clones, becoming nearly untargetable late. He shreds single-target heroes who can't deal with an army: Mars, Templar Assassin and Terrorblade all lose to the sheer clone count. PL is countered by AoE and pure damage that ignores illusions: Tidehunter Ravages the whole army, Axe Calls and AoE-spins, and Underlord or Necrophos clear clones with magic. Draft tip: PL is a nightmare for single-target line-ups; he's neutralized by AoE-heavy drafts (Tide, Axe, Sand King, Underlord), so check the enemy's clear before locking him.
In Dota 2 7.41f, the heroes that counter Phantom Lancer hardest are Leshrac, Meepo and Axe — Phantom Lancer wins only 46.1%, 46.6% and 46.8% of ranked matches against them.
How to counter Phantom Lancer: why these picks work
- Leshrac — Pulse Nova is a permanent illusion shredder — Phantom Lancer's numbers advantage melts every second he stays in range, and Diabolic Edict punishes the real one in close quarters.
- Axe — Counter Helix spins clear illusions for free, and Berserker's Call doesn't guess: it catches the real Lancer in the pile and holds him there.
- Sven — Great Cleave crits from God's Strength wipe entire illusion waves in two or three swings — Phantom Lancer's screen of bodies becomes free cleave fuel.
- Tidehunter — Ravage hits the whole illusion pack at once and Anchor Smash's cleave-like damage with attack-damage reduction makes the swarm hit like wet paper afterwards.
